Though it was a rainy day, the kitchen was filled with the warm, spicy scent of a winter remedy in the making. We gathered for our Elderberry Syrup Apothecary Class, an interactive workshop designed to connect us with the natural world and the age-old tradition of herbal medicine.

Here at Schenectady Urban Farms, we are deeply grateful for the various community partners we have who are dedicated to seeing the farms’ mission flourish. Today we want to highlight one of them: Union College!

Last month, farm members and visitor got to partake in a different kind of harvest – one focused not on culinary delights, but on the ancient art of herbal medicine! We hosted our August Apothecary classes, and they were truly enchanting experiences, connecting participants with the potent natural remedies growing right here on the farms.

If you attended our August Community Potluck at Vale, you might have tasted her Chilled Corn Soup with Pickled Corn! It was such a hit that we wanted to share the recipe with our community. This past weekend was a buzz-worthy celebration at the VIA Aquarium as we celebrated National Honeybee Day! Our dedicated apiary team set up a fantastic table to share their passion for these incredible pollinators with the community. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with curious kids and adults alike, teaching them about the vital role honeybees play in our ecosystem.

This past Sunday, we gathered together for another community potluck at the beautiful Vale Farm. It was a perfect afternoon with a gentle breeze. creating an ideal setting for gathering with friends and neighbors. The air was filled with the delicious smells of a wide variety of dishes. From savory casseroles to sweet desserts, every meal told a story.

There's a special kind of energy that hums through the farms on Volunteer Days. It's the sound of a community in action, where we come together with our fellow community members, and a shared purpose takes root. This isn't just about farming; it's about fostering connections.

The air at Schenectady Urban Farms was buzzing with excitement Monday, as we hosted a honey extraction event for farm members! It was an evening filled with sticky hands, sweet treats, and a heartwarming sense of community.

Schenectady Urban Farm's second Community Potluck, held at the Fehr Ave Farm on July 13, was a vibrant testament to the power of coming together! Attendees shared an abundance of delicious food, fostering a palpable sense of community building as laughter and conversation filled the air.
