A Bee-autiful Evening!

The air at Schenectady Urban Farms was buzzing with excitement Monday, as we hosted a honey extraction event for farm members! It was an evening filled with sticky hands, sweet treats, and a heartwarming sense of community. This event, more than just a harvest, truly embodies the spirit of what our urban farm is all about: education, fun, and bringing people together.

Our incredible apiary team guided everyone through the steps of extracting honey from the frames. The highlight for many was using the uncapping fork to gently scrape the wax off the honeycomb, revealing the golden liquid underneath. The air was filled with the sweet, floral scent of fresh honey. It was a messy, hands-on process that transformed a scientific concept into a joyful, interactive experience. The kids, in particular, loved it!

Beyond the sticky fingers and sweet rewards, the most special part of the day was the sense of community it fostered. Old and new friends were laughing and working together, sharing stories and tips. It was a beautiful reminder that our farm is more than just plots of land; it's a gathering place. It's where friendships are formed, knowledge is shared, and a shared passion for sustainable living brings people together.
