Schenectady Urban Farms Honors National Honeybee Day
This past weekend was a buzz-worthy celebration at the VIA Aquarium as we celebrated National Honeybee Day! Our dedicated apiary team set up a fantastic table to share their passion for these incredible pollinators with the community. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with curious kids and adults alike, teaching them about the vital role honeybees play in our ecosystem.
Our fantastic volunteers were on hand to answer every question, from "How does a bee make honey?" to "What's a queen bee's job?" Beyond the educational chats, they also brought a sweet taste of the farms with them. Attendees were able to take home jars of delicious, local honey, a direct result of the hard work of our hives, for their donations to the farms.
It’s easy to overlook the small, yet powerful, creatures that make our world thrive. National Honeybee Day is a crucial reminder of their importance. Honeybees pollinate a huge portion of our food crops, from the fruits on our tables to the vegetables in our gardens. Their health is directly linked to the health of our planet.
A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our table at the VIA Aquarium! Your curiosity and support help us continue our work and raise awareness about these amazing insects. We look forward to seeing you at our next event and, of course, to another year of working with our wonderful bees!
