First Community Potluck of 2025

Cultivating Community, One Dish at a Time

What a wonderful way to kick off the season! This past Saturday, June 14, 2025, Schenectady Urban Farms held our first community potluck of this year, and it was truly a heartwarming event. The rain stayed away, the laughter was abundant, and the spread of delicious food brought by everyone was incredible.

These potlucks are so much more than just a meal; they're an essential ingredient in building our community. As we shared dishes and stories, we weren't just nourishing our bodies, but also our connections to one another. It's in these moments of shared experience that we truly embody the spirit of caring for one another and the land. The dedication we all put into our gardens reflects the care we have for the earth, and coming together like this extends that care to the people around us.

There’s something uniquely special about building relationships as we eat together. Food has a way of bringing people together, breaking down barriers, and fostering a sense of belonging. We saw new friendships blossoming and existing bonds growing stronger. It's a beautiful reminder that while we work to grow fresh, healthy food for our community, we're also cultivating something just as vital: a vibrant, connected, and supportive network of neighbors.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made our first potluck such a success. We can't wait to see you at the next one!

(Special thanks to Farmer Ronnie for many of these beautiful, vivid photos!)
